How to use a Teleprompter App

Most creators you watch online seem to speak completely fluently. They never stumble or ramble, and they always land well on the point that they’re trying to make.

Well - it’s not magic. it’s a teleprompter app!

They’re using an app like Sophiana to read fluidly, and make splitting and slicing a whole lot easier when they’re in their video edit.

For me, using a teleprompter app for Tiktok or instagram is all about how to use it well.

A rookie error is losing energy whilst reading, or making it really obvious that you’re reading off something.

I use teleprompters all the time for presenting on BBC videos, where a teleprompter is a standard part of any explainer set.

I’ve spent nearly a decade using a tool like this and here’s what I’ve learned.

  1. Even the most experienced BBC presenters get told to deliver their script at least twice. That’s because we all need to warm up, it’s human. So - do more than one take.

  2. Deliver your script with the varied pitch and speed you’d bring to a normal conversation. don’t sound like a robot reading from a script. handily, a second take always helps with this.

  3. You have to slightly over perform when making this kind of content. Why? Because most people are naturally deadened a little bit because there’s no one speaking back at you. The

  4. Make sure there is a decent amount of distance between you and the teleprompter - if it’s too close, your eyes will move left and right in a way that’s very obvious to the viewer that you’re reading off a script. Distance means your eyes will look normal, and you’ll look like you’re not even using a teleprompter!
